Dateline May 25, 2011 ... Industry leaders and elected officials gathered for the "Rally for Roads" in Washington, D.C.
ACPA's Jerry Voigt, P.E., was among keynote speakers at the "Rally for Roads," in Washington, D.C., where he urged attendees to keep the momentum going and to continue to apply pressure for passage of the highway bill. The event was held after the annual Transportation Construction Coalition's legislative fly-in.
"Go back to your home towns, your home offices, and companies and carry with you the same enthusiasm, energy, and determination you see here today. Please talk to your neighbors, your colleagues, your employees and everyone you know who has the power of the vote."Ask them – no, urge them – to take a stand, and to tell their elected officials that they demand unselfish and discerning leadership, and the courage to do what is right for this country – make the tough call – demand that they find a way to raise the funds and invest them to repair and preserve the nation’s highways," Voigt told hundreds of elected officials and industry representatives present at the rally.
The Rally for Roads, organized by the Transportation Construction Coalition and Bonner & Associates, brought together Congressional leaders and the transportation, who organized to call attention to the dire need for a transportation bill.
Against the backdrop of the U.S. Capitol and heavy and highway construction equipment, the event also attracted much-needed media attention. (Photo and video courtesy of Bonner & Associates/Vallis Associates.) |
