ACPA’s Professors Seminar
SKOKIE, IL

A unique opportunity to develop a comprehensive instructional program for both undergraduate and graduate students or to simply increase your knowledge of concrete pavement technology from highly respected speakers.

SEMINAR OBJECTIVES

Concrete is often not considered for highway and airfield paving applications because design engineers are unfamiliar with basic design and construction procedures.  The objective of this seminar is to review current concrete pavement design, construction, and rehabilitation procedures  to update  attendees on the performance and economic factors related to concrete pavements.  Professors will be provided with a wealth of teaching materials, lesson outlines, presentations, literature, and computer programs.  This material will be invaluable in developing or expanding undergraduate and graduate courses for Civil Engineering and Technology students.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

ACPA invites college professors teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level to participate.  The seminar includes detailed information regarding the Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide, innovations in construction equipment and processes, current and planned research in support of the Concrete Pavement Roadmap, concrete mix design optimization, and other relevant topics.  The seminar will include a tour of the facilities at Construction Technology Laboratories, as well as a site visit to a mainline paving project (subject to project scheduling).

Instructors include professionals at the top of their fields.  The seminar will feature courses from Dr. Michael Ayers, PhD, ACPA’s Director of Highway Pavement Technology;Leif Wathne, P.E., ACPA’s Director of Highways; and invited lecturers from the Federal Highway Administration, state Departments of Transportation, and industry.

Participants from the 2006 seminar said that course content and materials were invaluable in providing students the latest information concerning concrete pavements. Fundamental engineering principles and classroom teaching aids are highlighted in the seminar.

SEMINAR FEE

The American Concrete Pavement Association and additional sponsors offset the majority of the costs for the Professor’s Seminar.  However, a course fee of $195.00 per participant will be assessed to offset a portion of the direct costs associated with guest speakers and handout materials

SPONSORSHIP

Following acceptance to the program, ACPA will assist participants in obtaining sponsorship to offset travel and incidental costs.  Although not guaranteed, sponsorship is generally provided through the generous donations of our ACPA Chapter/State network, Cement Promotion Groups and others. For more information on the course cost, contact Mike Ayers at mayers@pavement.com.
